Lord, Move us into Action–We Must GO

23 Nov

The song above, God of Justice by Tim Hughes is an amazing song. It reminds me of what God has called us ALL to do. The chorus says, “We must go, live to feed the hungry, stand beside the broken, we must go. Stepping forward, keep us from just singing. Move us into action. We must go.”

As followers of Christ, the Lord gives us a command in Mark 16:15 to go into ALL the world and to preach the Gospel to EVERY creature. The Greek word for “go” in this passage is poreuomai and it means literally to travel, remove, depart, go away, go forth, journey, or walk. I don’t know about you, but I think it is very clear what God is calling us all to do. We must not stay complacent in our faith! We need to be going to the whole world, living out our faith every day through our words and actions. And I am most definitely speaking to myself as well!

For me, I know that God has placed me in a very special place that I am continually amazed and honored by His graciousness to be chosen to go–Haiti. It has been an incredible journey so far, and this is only the beginning! After 8 years of knowing my call to missions, the Lord has directed my steps and brought me to a wonderful organization (family), World Indigenous Missions (WIM)! I have been on 2 short-term trips to Haiti, and the second trip was a complete confirmation that this was where God wanted me full-time.

Though I have been working with another wonderful missions organization (CEF) for a long time, the Lord showed me it wasn’t the right fit for the vision He had given me. With no time to waste, I then began to frantically search for the right fit. As I corresponded with them, everything seemed to fall perfectly into place with WIM, and I took a leap of faith and went to their orientation at the end of August. Through every session, God would confirm in many ways that this was the perfect fit, and within a few days, I was accepted as a missionary! God is so faithful.

Jesus has been molding and breaking my heart since going to Haiti to what breaks His. The moment I held an orphan that first trip, I knew it was all over from there. There was no turning back. I fell head-over-heels in love with the children of Haiti. Even more specifically, the orphans, street children, and restaveks (child slaves). There is such a great need, and the first thing you notice is the physical poverty…however, there is a much greater need, and that is the spiritual poverty of Haiti. Over half of Haiti’s population practices voodoo, and their country has been dedicated to Satan. There are over 600,000 orphans and counting, and they are helpless. They are innocent, and being brought into a dark world with no say in the matter. They need to hear of the hope they can have in Jesus. They need to know that there is an unfailing and everlasting love from a perfect Father–the perfect Father.

God’s providence is so awesome!! I have been away doing an internship with CEF in Missouri for the past year (and 3 months), and attending Children’s Ministries Institute. The month I come back “just so happens to be” Orphan/Foster Care Awareness Month, and my church, Bayside Baptist, happens to be participating in it! They have been doing this by raising awareness of the great need. Pastor Mark has been doing his sermons on caring for the least of these, and all the different ways we can do that as a body. Meanwhile, a friend connected me with his pastor in FLORIDA of all places, that is wanting to start up a James 1:27 ministry of caring for orphans and is interested in making trips to Haiti! I get to speak this Sunday and am so thrilled and excited to share the passion God has given me for orphans in Haiti! I am constantly amazed at how GREAT our God is. He is the ultimate Networker! đŸ™‚

I have less than 2 months now before heading to Haiti (January 12th, 2012) for 4 months on my first field internship. I’ll be working under missionaries, Mike and Andrea Brewer. While there, I’ll be learning the language (Haitian Creole/French) and culture of Haiti, while being mentored and learning how to survive any situation on the field. I’ll be in Croix-des-Bouquets, just east of the capital, Port au Prince, and will also get a chance to spend time with the kids of their orphanage (the part I’m most excited for!). Please pray for me as there is still much preparation needing to be done before leaving, and that I’ll continue to let the Lord have His way in my heart.

In Christ Alone,

Becca
